Why We Can Be Critical Without Being Partisan Posted on Thursday, November 06 @ 00:03:09 EST

We conservatives have endured 8 years of flagrant personal attacks on ourselves and on our President. We’ve been called racists, Nazis, bigots, murderers, warmongers, traitors, and war criminals. All of us knew how hollow this long list of inane insults that have been repeated on numerous occasions by far too many liberals was all along. The Democrats have just won an election to put their candidate into the office of President of the United States and looking back, we remember what these animals did to us and swear to ourselves that we will not lower ourselves to their level. Conservatives have always honored substance and character over mindless emotion and we are all individually fearful that we may fall into the same emotional trap of hatred that liberals fell into. Conservatives all across the nation have come out today making the statement that we will support the new President and will give him the chance to prove himself. The liberal media is even apologizing for its extremely unfair characterization of President Bush. It’s been all over the news, I saw an MSNBC story today talking about how maybe “we” were too hard on him while making note of his racially diverse cabinet.
Conservatives have always been more tolerant than liberals. Conservatives have always been the ones who were truly color blind, giving each person the opportunity to try and succeed, or try and fail on their own merits regardless of color or creed. We have always honored the individual and do not base arguments on emotion but rather on logic. This is why today conservatives feel the need to “put the past behind us” and support the new President. We don’t want to look like we’re being partisan for partisanship’s sake. We don’t want to look like we are trying to tear down the opposing team because we are on the opposite side of the isle because that is exactly what the opposition did.
I am here to remind you who we are and what we stand for. You and I, we do not need to worry that we will fall into this trap. That is not who we are. There are those few who have accused Barack Obama of being a Muslim or a terrorist. Our own candidate publicly denounced these partisan character assassinations and the vast majority of us confront those who try to assert these types of false claims. Yet it is important to note the difference between baseless partisan attacks and substantial criticisms. All criticism is not comprised of hateful insults. Criticism can and must be made on the basis of policy and character. If we are so afraid of being unpopular that we do not stand against a force that would corrupt liberty we give it control by default. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
So I will oppose Barack Obama now, before he takes office, before he attempts to enact his first policies not because he is on the opposing team, but because of his own words and his own actions. I will oppose him because he believes that it is immoral for me to reap the fruits of my own labor. He believes that the product of my hard work should be shared with those who are content to be dependants of the government, those who are too lazy to better themselves, those who have destroyed their own life so much that they are not trusted by society and have given up and blamed everyone else around them for their own mistakes, those who envy the fact that I have become successful through hard work and doing right by others. You will not find a politician on either side of the spectrum who opposes giving assistance to the helpless, but socialism will destroy my country.
Socialism removes the incentive for greatness, rewards laziness and inarguably creates a greater population of people who are content to be dependant on the government. There is not enough wealth in the world to allow everyone to be wealthy. So the choice is left to allow a man to reap the rewards of his own efforts, or to equalize them all by making them all poor. Barack Obama calls the latter “economic justice”.
I will oppose Barack Obama until he proves to me that he not will turn my country into a welfare state. I will oppose Barack Obama because he and his constituents believe that we should not be the lone superpower in the world. With thoughtless emotion they feel guilty having that power, that responsibility. But I look at the world and ask who else do you trust to lead it? If there is such a desire in the rest of the world to assist us in promoting freedom and prosperity, why haven’t they stepped up to help? We would all welcome the assistance.
The reason is because we are the only ones who are successful enough to afford it and we are the only ones who are selfless enough to do it without exploiting those we assist. We can do it is because we have an individual incentive to do good by our fellow man. We know that we will be judged by our own works and that we can only be more successful by helping others. It is our credit score on character. When we do the right thing we gain the trust of others which multiplies our success in all aspects of life. Socialism ignores this basic irremovable aspect of human relationships. History has shown over and over that when the incentive to do good is removed, the people become complacent and the powerful become oppressive. In America we excel by competing with each other for greatness. There will always be those who give up on themselves and place the blame of failure on others. Those people are the ones who elected Barack Obama.
I do not oppose Barack Obama because he is on the opposing team. I oppose him because of what he intends to do to my country and I will continue to oppose him until he proves to me that he does believe that I should have the opportunity to try and fail and try again on my own merits and that should I succeed, if I am finally able to pay off the debts for my own failures, I will not be taxed for the failure of others.
